PKR Sabah led by Dr Roland Chia who is also PKR Sabah Treasurer & also Penampang Acting Chief brought a team of PKR members and some food donation to visit a single mother of three and her family have been living in hard core poverty and hardship at kampong Tempiku, Kepayan , Penampang They have been living in such a condition i.e a (hand-to-mouth existence) since her husband left them three years ago. Going out to look for work is out of the question for the 37-year-old mother, who only wants to be known as Roslinah because she needs to care for her youngest child, aged nine, who is disabled. The disabled child was given an OKU card, but the welfare hardly come by to follow-up in facilitating the child in sending her to a special school. To add misery , Roslinah is also the primary caregiver for her 64-year-old paralysed mother. Roslinah's two other children, aged 17 and 13, are studying in a secondary school nearby. Two years ago Roslinah applied for aid from the State Welfare Department but she has yet to get a reply. The family has been relying on the occasional donations from the public. The house is in bad condition, the kitchen also collapsed recently, the house is still in bad condition, the roof leaks, and there is no water or electricity. Dr. Roland Chia urged the elected representatives to personally come and not just send their representatives, and see for himself how hardcore poverty is still in existence in Penampang despite being one of the fastest growing district in Sabah. This does not augur well with the 1-Malaysia Slogan : Rakyat Didahulukan Pencapaian Diutamakan. PKR Sabah is grateful to Sabah Chinese Kapitan Liaison and Welfare Committee chairman Peter Chong Ching Hang for highlighting their plight and was on site to supervise the repair works and the streams of donations coming in.
