MEDIA STATEMENT : Manifesto For All The Rakyat, Debat Manifesto Demi Rakyat

Posted: 06 Mar 2013 07:04 PM PST

The reception given to the Manifesto Rakyat launched last week is encouraging. I am open to further proposals from various groups to refine further the manifesto, as long as they do not alter the principle policies of Pakatan Rakyat to reject racial politics and prioritise good governance and justice for the people.

I'm taking this initiative to hear out various ways, and at the same time explain elements of the manifesto as it is. For instance, the meeting with the representatives from the bodies advancing the issues of the disabled helped us explain better the programmes already in the manifesto to uplift and maintain their general welfare.

I have been in many discussions with leaders of the Indian community since last week to consider their point of view. I'd take this opportunity to reemphasise several things that will involve the Indian community, as follows:

1. 1. The longstanding issue of stateless people residing in Malaysia, without excluding Indians, will be resolved n the first 100 days of Pakatan Rakyat's administration;
2. Technical training coupled with job opportunities will be made available to school leavers, with the focus to help those from poor families. The Indian community will be major beneficiaries from these programmes to eradicate poverty and uplift socio-economic standing;

3. 3. Pakatan Rakyat will ensure all Tamil schools will be fully funded and that their infrastructure is comparable to the national education standards. This declaration is clearly spelt out in Manifesto Rakyat;
4. Polis diRaja Malaysia (PDRM) will b reformed as stipulated in Manifesto Rakyat that also details the formation of an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).

5. A National Housing Board which will be formed by a Pakatan Rakyat government will build affordable homes for the people, including in that focus to help build freehold homes for ex-estate workers around the country.

All these stated above are already in Manifesto Rakyat, which is build on all the policies and announcements made by Pakatan Rakyat previously. Still, to strengthen our commitment to explicitly state our commitment, these matters will be detailed further in the Manifesto Rakyat for distribution, as urged by groups who have expressed their position to us.

I defend our needs based approach in all our programmes so that they are well-executed. In order for the effectiveness and success of each social engineering programme in Manifesto Rakyat, we require the support of all communities.
For example, the implementation of the Rakyat Apprenticeship Scheme will involve thousands of employers nationwide offering job placements to young school leavers through the job placement scheme, giving them technical training at their premises. Employers will cooperate with the government to train our young to meet the national technical skills standards.

This smart partnership will enable employers to tap the local human resource at a cheaper rate because the government will contribute to the majority of the trainee's cost during their apprenticeship. In this way the government has a platform to train hundreds of thousands of young people in a programme to improve their low-income families socio-economic standings, while utilising young people in our economy.

Such a programme requires the cooperation of multi-sectoral employers and all communities to join it with an open mind and willing heart, in the spirit of national service. If the programmes appear to be tailor made for one race, it will quickly discourage the participation of other races for it only caters to the needs on one race only.

The failure of many Barisan Nasional programmes is due to poor reception and broad cooperation brought by each programme being race-
based.

That is why I defend a needs-based approach for only all-inclusive programmes can be implemented successfully.

Barisan Nasional attacks on our manifesto is based on outdated propaganda accompanied by deceiving figures to confuse the people. For instance, Barisan Nasional questions the wisdom in taking over the highways from the concessionaires and cancelling toll payments, while the funds they have apportioned annually for BR1M1 and BR1M2 have already outstripped the RM6 billion initially outlay.

I remind Barisan Nasional that Pakatan Rakyat presented a transparent financial calculation that RM45.7 billion would be required to fund our programmes. Therefore, Barisan Nasional should lay down the financial analysis they are adopting to support their accusations against us, so that the people can compare and decide.

I am told that Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak will be rebutting Manifesto Rakyat soon. I'm confident the people would prefer him giving his rebuttals in a live policy debate rather than offering them in isolation as he often does.

KENYATAAN MEDIA : Manifesto Untuk Semua Rakyat, Debat Manifesto Demi Rakyat

Posted: 06 Mar 2013 07:01 PM PST

1. Masalah kerakyatan yang kebanyakannya melibatkan rakyat Malaysia dari kaum India di samping kaum-kaum lain di seluruh Malaysia akan diselesaikan dalam tempoh 100 pertama pentadbiran Pakatan Rakyat di Putrajaya;

2. Program khusus untuk menyediakan latihan teknikal yang digabungkan dengan peluang pekerjaan untuk anak-anak muda lepasan sekolah dengan sasaran utama kepada anak-anak miskin. Masyarakat India akan mendapat manfaat utama dari program ini untuk membasmi kemiskinan dan menaiktaraf kedudukan sosio-ekonomi;

3. Pakatan Rakyat akan memastikan semua Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil menjadi sekolah bantuan penuh agar kemudahan infrastrukturnya setanding dengan piawai pendidikan nasional. Pengiktirafan ini dimuatkan secara jelas di dalam Manifesto Rakyat;

Saya mempertahankan pendekatan berdasarkan keperluan (needs based approach) kerana setiap program perlulah dilaksanakan kelak secara berkesan.

Ex-Army Chief Rues Lack of Clear Chain of Command

Posted: 06 Mar 2013 07:11 AM PST

Malaysiakini

There is no clear chain of command with regard to what is happening in Lahad Datu, says former army chief Gen (Rtd) Md Hashim Hussein.

When you have such a situation, Md Hashim said, there must be a clear command structure.

"This is needed to coordinate the operations. Right now, I think it is not there," he said.

However, Md Hashim (right), who retired in 2002, admitted that a clear assessment of the ground situation was needed.

In contrast, he said, the Sauk incident in Perak was resolved in four days, with the right personnel.

"We managed to resolve it due to a clear command structure, clear orders, clear control, plus we had the right troops for the task," he said.

The retired general also warned the government against using information war to blackout incidents such as what was going on in Lahad Datu.

“As for the information warfare that they use… What a tangled web we weave if we begin to deceive”.

Md Hashim also announced that he has officially joined PKR today and voiced his support for Pakatan Rakyat.

Formerly Malaysia's ambassador to Pakistan, Md Hashim said he is attracted to the leadership of Anwar Ibrahim, who was his schoolmate in the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK).

"He has managed to harmonise Pakatan, all ethnic communities and Malaysia, and this is due to Anwar’s leadership quality," he said.

"I find the Pakatan leaders have the right leadership qualities and can lead the country. I also verify the claims made by my former number two, Lt-Gen Abdul Ghafir Abdul Hamid, on the wastage and leakages in army spending," he said.

‘Barracks and facilities in bad shape’

Md Hashim, who was first commander to the Malaysian batallion in Bosnia-Herzogovina, said he had gone to some of the army camps up north to verify the claims made by Abdul Ghafir.

He said he had seen that army conditions are indeed in a bad shape, including their homes, barracks, washroom and also armaments.

"There was a former senior airforce officer that reminded that there were no proper spare parts for aircrafts, however, this person had been admonished by the (BN) politician," he claimed.

Md Hashim said he expected to receive brickbats for voicing his support for Pakatan, but assured that he had carefully thought about the matter after discussing with some of his former officers.

The former top army personnel said that the Pakatan leadership had been coercing him to make an appearance, and he thinks that there was a need to strategise his entrance into the party to bring the desired impact.

Over the past few weeks, several former armed forces top guns had voiced their support towards Pakatan.

Abdul Ghafir had even pledged, during a Pakatan convention, that the army will ensure a smooth transition should the opposition come into power after the general election.

[KENYATAAN MEDIA] Pendedahan Bayaran Terhadap KonsultanPerhubungan Awam Amerika Untuk Menyerang Anwar: Kerajaan Diam Membisu

Posted: 06 Mar 2013 06:54 AM PST

FBC turut membayar AS$70,000 kepada APCO Worldwide untuk melobi kerajaan AS mewakili pentadbiran Najib.
