‘Cowardly’ Najib Uses RPK Crutch to Catch Anwar in 3-Cornered Debate Posted: 22 Mar 2012 04:16 AM PDT Malaysia Chronicle Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim he has accepted an offer from Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to debate Prime Minister Najib Razak and fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin in a three-cornered debate. "Assange said he wants to organize the debate. It could be a three-cornered debate. I told him I agreed," Anwar told a press conference on Thursday. Any more crude replies from Umno or Najib? The 64-year-old Anwar has tried many times to get Najib into public debates over the economy and state of the nation but to no avail. Perhaps in the belief that Najib lacked the skills to match Anwar, a gifted orator, the Malaysian PM himself and various other Umno leaders including former premier Mahathir Mohamad have always countered the invitation by insisting Anwar had no right to such a debate. Last month, after Najib gave a speech lauding a key debate between DAP’s Lim Guan Eng and MCA president Chua Soi Lek, Anwar’s PKR party sent a formal invitation to Najib. It was met with a crude reply from Umno sec-gen Tengku Adnan, who told Anwar to debate Saiful Bukhari Azlan instead. Saiful is the complainant in the Sodomy II trial from which Anwar has been acquitted. The opposition leader has accused Najib and wife Rosmah of framing him to derail his political comeback. Height of cowardice It looks like the conniving at Umno has not stopped despite Najib’s grand speeches and promises of greater democracy. According to PKR leaders, this was evident in the way Najib used Raja Petra Kamaruddin – a PKR turncoat and now pro-Umno blogger – to try and get Najib off the debate hook. A recent survey found that 54 per cent of voters in Peninsular Malaysia want to see regular debates between Najib and Anwar, with over three-quarters of young Malays backing a debate between the Umno-led Barisan Nasional and Anwar’s Pakatan Rakyat. “Obviously it is unfair for Anwar. We all know where RPK stands but the boss has said he is not worried. Anwar has said he is not afraid. If Anwar has the courage to face the two of them at one go, it only shows how cowardly Najib is. There is no way Najib can escape now. It would be a total disgrace if Najib declines even with RPK holding his nappy for him,” PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle. According to WikiLeaks website, it has extended an invitation to Najib to debate with Anwar and RPK jointly or in isolation. "We have formally invited Prime Minister Najib Razak to discuss the future of Malaysia together with Mr Ibrahim, moderated by Mr Assange. If accepted, the filmed discussion will be seen by up to 600 million people and will be available online," it said. Najib and wife Rosmah are known for their love of publicity, but the sheer size of the potential TV audience might be a bit daunting. Najib is also known to be a slow thinker, who relies on speechwriters. Hence, the need for a crutch in the form of RPK, who has been attacking Anwar ever since he fled to London to avoid imprisonment over defamation charges. |

Meeting on Influencing Judges – Najib May Be in Contempt of Court Posted: 22 Mar 2012 01:38 AM PDT I refer to Felda Chairman Isa Samad’s statement today that Felda will lodge a police report on its documents which were leaked to the opposition. On March 19 Keadilan Secretary-General Datuk Saifuddin Nasution had revealed minutes of a Felda meeting chaired by Prime Minister Najib Razak on June 27 2011 which suggested that the government was attempting to influence judges hearing Felda cases. The ‘Najib minutes’ revealed by Saifuddin Nasution are shocking, disturbing and unprecedented as it involves the Prime Minister personally. Until today Najib and the government have not responded to this serious allegation of interference with the judiciary which is backed up by documentary proof. In an obvious delaying tactic, Umno Information Chief Ahmad Maslan has said that he will only respond in Parliament on March 26. This is an urgent matter of grave public importance which involves the integrity and independence of the judiciary. What is the reason for delaying their response until 26th March 2012? Further, the authorities are now threatening to lodge police reports against the person or persons who leaked the minutes. It has become standard practice for the government to go after the whistleblower instead of taking action on the wrongdoing which has been exposed. The contents of the ‘Najib minutes’ may amount to serious interference in the administration of justice and criminal contempt of court. The courts should immediately issue a notice to the Prime Minister ordering him to appear in court and explain why he should not be cited for contempt of court. The police and MACC must also investigate whether there are elements of abuse of power. The silence and failure of the authorities to take any action on this matter will further erode public confidence in our institutions. Issued by, |
Anwar Reveals How EC Conducts ‘Massive Fraud’ Posted: 22 Mar 2012 12:24 AM PDT The de facto leader of PKR today exposed opposition claims of how the Election Commission (EC) was conducting "massive fraud" in manipulating the voters roll. "I shall prove it and give a specific example," assured Anwar Ibrahim (right) at a press conference in parliament lobby. He then furnished reporters with a printout of an EC voter search to show how a voter with her name and IC numbers already registered in Pulai Johor was re-registered as a new voter in Pekan, Pahang. "This is how they do it. If they had entered the same data, the computer will reject it. So they added a slash (/) after the IC numbers in the new registration," he alleged, holding up the printout. The additional character, he explained, made it appear to the computer that this was a new and different record, despite the voter being the same person. This, he claimed, is how the EC in collusion with Umno registers a voter multiple times in many constituencies to weigh the electoral dice in their favour. "I am sure it was under instructions and Umno is aware. I am sure they say that the EC has a duty to safeguard the Malays," claimed Anwar. He added that this is another stain on the credibility of the commission. "Who believes the EC nowadays? Why they have a Parliamentary Select Committee on electoral reform is because no one trusts them," he alleged. However, even the PSC is not enough to haul up the commission towards reform, said Anwar, as the core issues of cleaning up the electoral roll remain unsolved. Today's expose is another in a series of assaults that the opposition has targeted on the EC and the problematic electoral roll of late. The opposition is upping their tempo amidst expectations that polls will be held around June, and their fear that the electoral jig may be rigged against them.

Anwar to take on both RPK And Najib in Debate Posted: 21 Mar 2012 09:38 PM PDT Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has agreed to go toe to toe with his most ardent critics, self-exiled blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, popularly known as RPK, and Premier Najib Abdul Razak in an upcoming debate. "Julian Assange has agreed to host the debate between Najib, RPK and me and I have said yes," the Permatang Pauh MP told reporter at a press conference in the parliament lobby today. Anwar said that the Wikileaks founder Assenge had initially contacted him for an interview on Twitter, and he had agreed. However, RPK then protested and butted into the deal, with Najib supporting him. Looking at the exchange, Assenge then said that he is prepared to organise a three-corner debate between the contentious trio. RPK and Najib have yet to confirm, though Anwar said he is willing to take them both on. |
