Barisan Nasional through their majority block of 137 MPs in the House of Parliament, vilely, supported the motion to suspend the Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for a lengthy six months on the charge of misleading the House by claiming that the Israeli-linked public relations consultancy APCO Worldwide employed by the Najib administration was behind both the 1 Malaysia and 1 Israel concepts.

This deplorable act, in disregard of natural law, unprecedented in the history of Commonwealth Parliaments and devoid of the common decency that bounds us all in this harmonious and peaceful country, confirms our suspicion that Barisan Nasional will continue to practice the art of black democracy in preserving their rule.

Today we witness another episode of injustice and tyranny whereby Y.B. Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim is suspended by the Rights and Privileges Committee without his defence being called. This is akin to being beaten while being handcuffed at the back. By all means, this is another version of the 'black-eye' incident which happened in 1998. The promise of a more open and democratic environment envisioned by the Barisan Nasional regime has proven to be a sham. In these last 12 years, the practice of black democracy persists in the regime of Barisan Nasional.

As we can see today, the Opposition Leader is barred from the House; the Committee that deliberated the proceedings rejected the right to call witnesses, rejected Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim the right to legal representation and lastly rejected the permission to allow observers to be present during the proceedings. These blatant un-parliamentarian acts are beneath the common civility that Malaysians deserve.

It is not surprising to see the Barisan Nasional regime resorting to this kind of dirty and disgraceful tactic in the House of Parliament. This regime is drowning in their own slogans of grandeur while continuing the practice of corruption and mismanagement. These suspensions, involving the Opposition Leader and senior MPs, serve as a buffer for the regime to pass legislations without a representative opposition. In essence, the instruments of the Parliament were unashamedly abused to hide the truth and to continue with the series of lies regarding 1Malaysia.

These un-parliamentarian acts which we witness today, has to stop for democracy is at stake in Malaysia. Malaysia does not need another black day for democracy nor another 'black eye' incident. I would like to conclude by saying that Malaysia deserves a just and an impartial Parliament. The suspension of the Opposition Leader, Y.B. Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other senior MPs such as Y.B. Karpal Singh and Y.B. Sivarasa Rasiah must be lifted at once in order to restore the integrity of the Malaysian House of Parliament and ultimately to give Rakyat the best level of representation they deserve.
