Condolences Over Desmond Fernando’s Demise

Posted: 07 Jul 2010 01:57 AM PDT

I am deeply saddened by the untimely death of my friend colleague in the fight for liberal democratic causes,Mr.Desmond Fernando.

I shall always remember him for his steadfast support of constitutional government and liberal causes, best exemplified by his leadership of the Dudley Senanayake Foundation and as President of the Council for Liberal Democracy.

The Legal fraternity of Sri Lanka has lost an advocate of undimmed luster, constitutional government an exponent of compelling eloquence, and i a friend of enduring memory.

My solicitude to the bereaved in their time of loss.

Catatan Mitch Kapor

Posted: 06 Jul 2010 10:22 PM PDT

From Mitch’s Posterous

I’m back from Kuala Lumpur where I gave a couple of talks on innovation and entrepreneurship. Press coverage from The Malaysian Insider and The Star (Malaysia) explains the context pretty well.

I tried to communicate that companies in Silicon Valley didn’t succeed because of some magical formula which could be copied. Searching for a formula for success in order to apply it is doomed to failure. However, underlying principles such as the willingness to tolerate risk and embrace failure are important. Creating a culture and mindset that supports innovation is the goal. Unfortunately or not, culture is not something which can be mandated by policy, but it can be influenced and nudged.

The talks were quite well received. There is a lot of grassroots interest in learning more about startups and what makes them succeed and applying that in the local context. My hosts were extraordinarily gracious and welcoming. I’d not been to that part of the world previously and would encourage all (especially Eric Ries of “Lean Startup” fame) to visit.

Bala, Raja Petra Ada ‘Kunci Peti Rahsia’ Kabinet Najib?

Dari Harakah Daily
Oleh Dzulfikar Mashoor

Penyiasat peribadi, Balasubramaniam kemungkinan mempunyai ‘anak kunci peti rahsia’ kes pembunuhan gadis Mongolia, Altantuya Shaariibuu, kata Naib Presiden PAS, Datuk Mahfuz Omar.
